Member of the United Nations Global Compact

BJB joined the United Nations Global Compact in October 2022 as part of its commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship. Sustainability has long been an integral part of the venerable Arnsberg company’s values and practices. The family-owned business, which supplies systems to the luminaire and household appliance industry, has pursued a sustainability-driven corporate strategy for more than 150 years.

UN Global Compact

The United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest voluntary initiative in the field of corporate social and environmental responsibility. The network currently comprises around 19,000 economic actors and organisations in more than 170 countries. By joining the compact, participating collectives commit to aligning their business practices, production processes and corporate strategies with ten universally recognised principles: These principles relate to the fields of human rights, labour standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption and are derived from various UN declarations and guidelines, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development.

“An exceptional opportunity to demonstrate political commitment and nail our colours to the mast!”

Talk of global players generally evokes images of large, unscrupulous corporations and is not generally associated with traditional small and medium-sized enterprises. The Arnsberg-based technology supplier, however, has long proved its ability to join the ranks of the big players. Nevertheless, the decision to join the UN Global Compact comes with a pledge to remain grounded and sustainable.

“The UN Global Compact offers BJB the opportunity to align our organisation, business relations, and reporting along internationally recognised sustainability standards”, says Managing Director Philipp Henrici. “Starting next year, we will be publishing voluntary annual sustainability reports about our activities relating to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.”

As a family business, the Arnsbergers are committed to continued transparency and honesty, even in the face of success.
