From the apprenticeship to the HR-Manager

Marc, you have been with BJB for a very long time. Tell us a little bit about your personal path with the company:

Human resources already fascinated me during my apprenticeship due to the multifaceted areas. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I was able to specialize in HR topics as part of a part-time master’s degree program. I gained further interesting insights as the assistant to the management and working at our subsidiary in the USA. At the age of 29 I was given the confidence to take on the position of the HR Manager and thus I was responsible for the entire HR department.

You still work in the field of human resources with absolute conviction and pleasure. What appeals to you about this area of responsibility?

Human Resources is a very varied field. Whether it’s about negotiating with the works council, the implementation of legal and organizational framework conditions or individual concerns. Every day is different. In addition to my job at BJB I am an honorary judge at the Labor Court in Arnsberg and a member of various committees for training and development. These tasks bring new perspectives to my daily work.

What do you particularly like about the company BJB?

BJB is a family business with 155 years of tradition. Our employees are deeply connected to the company and the region. Quite a few of our employees are already working for us in the second or third generation,. At the same time, BJB is a global player without the rigid structures of a large corporation. An independent way of working with short decision-making processes is not a phrase, but is lived at BJB.

You told us that you have been with the company for 15 years. Why did you decide to join BJB back then?

BJB has always offered one of the most attractive training programs in the region. I chose to stay in the region of the Sauerland and not move to a bigger city. In addition my grandpa also worked at BJB which made it even more attractive to also join the company. After receiving the acceptance letter for the dual study program, the decision to be part of BJB was clear.

BJB has experienced many changes throughout the years. Tell us more about these changes.

The last 15 years have been characterized by change. In the daily interaction with people we can record good moments as well as personal fates, good times and bad times. One of the most significant changes of the last few years is reflected in a fundamental and successful realignment under a modern management.

Even if the path was not always easy, I am glad that I have been able to be part of the company during this time and I am looking forward to helping shape a promising future.

Thank you for the insights, Mr. Wenzel!
